We will give you help and advice with breastfeeding, if needed, at any of our postnatal visits, however, as an alternative to our full postnatal care package we offer a purely breastfeeding support only service.
This will be ideal if you are happy to receive NHS postnatal care but would like the security of knowing a midwife will have the time to spend with you to establish breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding is natural but the majority of babies need to learn how to breastfeed. The first few days can be hard work, as you are both learning positioning, latching on and how to achieve effective feeding to trigger your breast milk to flow.
In our experience, the more support and guidance you have in the early days, the more likely you are to succeed in breastfeeding your baby. Correct latching to the breast helps to avoid damaged nipples which is one of the most common reasons why women give up by the end of the first week.
Breastfeeding Package
Breastfeeding is the best start you can give your baby, however, it can also be one of the most stressful beginnings to life with your newborn.
